Community Mediation Services

Conflicts with family and friends can turn into major problems in your life, but you don’t have to let that happen. We can help.

Community Mediation of St. Mary’s County provides conflict management education and coaching, as well as mediation support services that empower people to turn conflict into conversation. CMSMC offers free services by appointment at the Health Hub on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., including:

    • General Mediation: Sibling/Friend, Neighbor, or Landlord/Tenant disputes
    • Family Mediation:  Separation/Divorce, Co-parenting, Elder Care
    • Parent-Teen Mediation
    • Individualized Conflict Management Coaching
    • Conflict Management Workshops

Crisis Counseling Services

Whether you’re dealing with mental health needs or a substance abuse disorder, resources are available to help you make a positive change in your life. It starts with stabilizing your situation and transitioning into the recovery phase.

The St. Mary’s County Health Hub offers support in the following areas:

Professional assessment of mental health and substance use recovery needs

Help to coordinate treatment with behavioral health professionals

Connections to community resources and supports

Connections to peers who are living in recovery from substance abuse and mental health challenges

If you need immediate assistance — whether it’s an assessment or counseling — you can walk in at the Health Hub during business hours. Our behavioral health professionals will work to resolve your crisis in a less intensive setting than a hospital. We can connect you to long-term behavioral health counseling, medication management, and community resources.

We do recommend calling 911 or utilizing the hospital emergency department if you or someone you know is suicidal or homicidal, experiencing extreme psychosis, or is otherwise in need of immediate medical care or medications. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is also available for 24/7 support.

Day Reporting Program

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s Day Reporting Program emphasizes health care, education, and other life needs to support rehabilitation and mitigate factors contributing to crime. Participants commit to vigorous treatment, rehabilitation, and daily monitoring in lieu of residential incarceration. The program decreases recidivism in the criminal justice system.

Employment Services

Ready to find a job or take the next step in your professional life? The help you need is here at the Health Hub.

The Maryland Department of Labor provides employment services each month at the Hub, including career counseling, resume assistance, and professional skills workshops.

Appointments are held on the second Wednesday of each month. Contact the Health Hub at 301-904-8949 or smchd.healthhub@maryland.gov to reserve your place.

Expungement Clinics

Certain types of criminal records are eligible to be expunged, or removed from your record, under Maryland law. The law offices of Williams, McClernan, and Stack, LLC provides free legal help for those who may be eligible.

Expungement Clinics are held on the first Tuesday of every other month. The first clinic of 2024 will take place on March 5, 2024.

Financial Support Services

A smart approach to your finances is a major factor in leading a healthy, stable life.

PNC Bankoffers financial education and coaching at the St. Mary’s County Health Hub, including tips to help you maintain a budget, navigate banking resources, invest wisely, grow your savings, and plan for retirement.

Harm Reduction Program Services

​​Harm reduction is a way of preventing disease and promoting health that “meets people where they are” rather than making judgments about where they should be in terms of health and lifestyle.

Health Insurance Enrollment

A Medicaid Specialist from the St. Mary’s County Health Department is available at the Health Hub on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to answer questions about health insurance options and assist with Medicaid enrollment

Literacy Council Services

Improving your literacy skills can provide a major boost to your professional opportunities and significantly improve your quality of life.

The Literacy Council of St. Mary’s provides one-on-one tutoring and customized learning opportunities for adults. Trained tutors help students advance academics at all levels, including GED preparation and skills for successful career paths. They also support learning English for speakers of other languages.

Medical Respite Services

Medical respite services support homeless individuals with ongoing medical needs after they are discharged from the hospital. It’s a collaborative effort with MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and Three Oaks Center

Participants receive care coordination and temporary shelter at Three Oaks Center to facilitate post-discharge medical services. During this time, public agencies and community organizations work together to resolve factors contributing to the person’s homelessness. 

Participants can access additional services through the nearby St. Mary’s County Health Hub.

Primary Health Care Services

Primary care is foundational, comprehensive, and accessible healthcare to address a wide range of medical needs, emphasize preventive care, and establish long-term patient-provider relationships.

Greater Baden Medical Services provides primary and preventive health care services for those 12 and older on Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

Greater Baden Medical Services is a Federally Qualified Health Center that operates community-based health clinics. It offers services on a sliding fee scale and accepts private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and those who do not have health insurance.

Reiki hand

Reiki

Reiki is an alternative healing method that reduces stress and promotes relaxation through a gentle non-invasive technique using hand placement on or near the body to help facilitate a deep meditative state. It helps promote emotional and psychological wellbeing along with physical health.

Sessions are available for free every Wednesday from 11am-3pm. Fascia work and chakra clearing are available Mondays and Fridays from 12pm-4pm.

Youth Mentoring

Stella’s Girls offers mentoring for young people 8 to 24 years old, with an emphasis on black youth. The mentorship provides a framework to discover and understand their individual brilliance.

Youth Mentoring is available at the Health Hub on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

The mission is to provide a foundation that will enhance self-esteem, academic achievement, leadership skills, and cultural awareness. This provides them with the opportunity to develop emotionally, socially, and intellectually and be prepared to take an active role in their success as they face the challenges of the world.

Using evidence-based mentorship techniques, professional volunteers teach leadership skills, self-empowerment, and self-esteem while affirming gender equality for generations to come.
